There are many ways to get involved in SWE or volunteer your time for good causes through SWE. Future scheduled meetings and events can be found through the "Future Meetings" link. All past event and meetings can be found under the "Past Meetings" link. We have monthly meetings from September through April. Additionally, we have a number of activities that we are involved in that happen once a year or more.

Recurring Activities and Events

Girl Scouts

As part of SWE's outreach objective, we help Girl Scouts with their science badges.

Younkers Fundraiser

Each fall we sell tickets to get into a super-sale at Younkers that is open only to ticket holders, typically held in November. The tickets typically include a coupon for the amount of the ticket. We keep the full profits from the ticket sales. We will also provide volunteers to work at a Younkers store during the sale stocking items, selling tickets at the doors, etc. If we sell above a certain threshhold, we also get a cut of the tickets sold at the door.

Region H Meeting and Conference

Every spring, the regional meeting and conference is hosted by a collegiate section. We will tyically carpool to this event.

National Conference

SWE's national conference is hosted every fall, usually by a large professional section.  It rotates through the regions, so it is sometimes within driving distance, and other times requires flying out. Seminars, business meetings for the organization, a career fair with hundreds of companies from all over the country, and numerous banquets and networking events are held.  

Exploring Engineering

Some of our members have been participating in the Engineering Explorer program, which is affiliated with the Boy Scouts, in Des Moines and Marshalltown. The Explorer program is a great way to show boys and girls what engineers do.  The members in Des Moines have worked with classes at Roosevelt High School through this program. The students responded very positively to the program.

Events with the ISU Collegiate Section

We are the closest professional section to Iowa State University, and we are often invited to their networking events or to help with mock interviews. We also host a dinner in the spring for graduating members to encourage them to continue their membership in SWE as professionals.
